Heat is a funny thing; it is necessary to sustain life but yet too much can be deadly.
10 baby chicks died today, due to heat stress. It was awful discovering their limp, smothered bodies. But it prompted me to act quickly to save the others; sometimes in a time of crisis you have to look beyond the immediate problem. The chickies will now have a fan in their brooder during the day, as well as have a shade cloth canopy, but on cooler nights they will still have their lights on. Today was hard, but I hope enough lessons were learned to prevent future catastrophe.
